Friends
I have been in contact with a handful of old friends lately. It is very odd, as when I 'left' this group of friends it was with some hard feelings, but I really want to know what is going on with them. It is hard to keep friends close sometimes. If I have 'left' you.....I'm sorry.

Exclamation points
As a fairly new parent I am starting to think in exclamation points.
Max does not eat enough vegetables!
He is almost 17 months and still takes 3 bottles a day!
He is supposed to be drinking 48 oz. of water a day plus 24 oz. of milk!
He won't let me brush his teeth!
He can SO climb!
This is not the time to cut back on the anti-depressants.

Long time coming
So I guess most of you know my dad died on May 29. I was right there with him. It was a surreal experience. My dad's side of the family came in. They are a hoot. We have a couple of zingers:
peace corps volunteer (spent much time in Africa, is going back soon)
lesbian mother of two special needs African American children
lesbian mother of bi-racial child
Sikh convert who no longer cuts his hair or shaves to honor his wife's religion
Absolutely lovely people who I don't get to spend near enough time with.
Life has been a blur and now summer is almost half way over. I go back August 4 I think.
Still can't think straight for long periods of time.
Check back soon. Love you all.

Update on Dad
He is now semi-comatose and responds only with grunts or a slight shake of his head. He does not seem to know who I am. This is torture. I can;t think straight, can't make the simplest of decisions.

Worse than difficult
So fucking hard. Can't think straight. So many feelings, so many of them selfish.

Tagged for movie quotes
So Mathman http://www.mathman6293.blogspot.com tagged me with a movie quotes meme.
1. Here are quotes from 15 of my favourite movies.
2. See if you can name the films from whence they were lifted. [“From whence.” Don’t you just love it?]
3. No googling or IMDBing; I'm trusting you on this.
4. I'll post the film names as they’re correctly identified
1. Did you ever think to marry just for fun?
2. I wouldn't pray just for a old man that's dead, 'cause he's all right. If I was to pray, I'd pray for folks that's alive and don't know which way to turn.
3. I’ve never been to the opera.
4. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so.
5. If I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead
6. Wow, you're fast. I'm glad I caught up to you. I waited 5 hours for you. Why is your coat so big? So, good news - I saw a dog today. Have you seen a dog? You probably have. How was school? Was it fun? Did you get a lot of homework? Huh? Do you have any friends? Do you have a best friend? Does he have a big coat, too?
7. Oh, wake up, Norma, you'd be killing yourself to an empty house. The audience left twenty years ago.
8. It's such a nice sounding word for what it means: a fortunate accident.
9. Halt. You treasonous tramp. Conspiring with the enemy at sea is MUTINY.
10. I've been on a diet every day since I was nineteen, which basically means I've been hungry for a decade.
11. How are they going to deliver a bowling alley here tonight?
12. Jean Louise. Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing
13. Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullshit now has a body count.
14. Listen, it's after 7:00. Don't waste good lip gloss.
15. I forgot the other boy. Oh, what's his name. Oh, well, God bless What's-his-name

Stupid question of the day:
Neophite teacher to me:
Do you have any makeup because I forgot to put any on this morning?
Have you seen me? Never, no never wear makeup.

Good Day
It started out with Mr. Pissy McPissser Pants being pissy because he goes to bed too late.
Then there are cops every where at my school this morning (bomb threat/shootout rumor).
Then in 2nd block there is a crack whore for a substitute (I am not kidding you here).
Then the Citizenship teacher is teaching Watergate(!?!?!?!?!) and says that the identity of 'Deep Throat' (the Watergate informant) is still unknown because they all swore to keep it secret until he died. Mark Felt came out in 2005 and admitted that it was he and it was confirmed by Woodward and Bernstein. I thought he had died but cannot confirm that. But hey, I am not a Social Studies teacher. The citizenship teacher should not be a social studies teacher either.
Then the crack whore substitue decided that she would no longer follow the lesson plan for the day and showed a movie instead.
Then in another English class a kid told me "Bite me."
I am getting drunk tonight.

Dinner
At the last minute we went to dinner with Rachel and Marshall and their two very grown up children. We, as usual, had a great time. But I forgot to tell them at the end of the evening that I love them, so: LOVE YOU GUYS!

Clowns
Have I mentioned that I hate clowns? Let me rephrase that: I am terrified of clowns. They absolutely freak me out. Who is with me on this one? I have always hated them, but then I read Stephen King's "It" and never recovered.

Mundane, but good
I am off this week, which means I get to spend lots of time with Max. We had his 1st birthday party on Sunday.

What a cutie. Max and I left his daddy to nap today and we went shopping. I ran into an old friend at Target. It was nice catching up. She had not seen Max since about August, so she was impressed with what a big boy he is. We then went to Greenlife Grocery to buy some soap. We are trying to do as little chemicals as possible, so we got some Dr. Bronner's (gotta love that stuff) peppermint and some Dr. Bronner's baby. I also got some bar patchouli. I love that smell. I was reminded how much the other night when Dawnia and Travis came over and I buried my nose in his neck when I hugged him. I used it tonight when I showered and I keep sniffing my arms. Yummy!
Dawnia and Travis at the cookout.
Tim is upstairs watching "The Godfather." Little insight into my psyche: Way, way, way too violent for me.
Max had a fever of 102.3 earlier, which of course freaked me out. I called the pediatrician and they said to give Tylenol and check it every four hours or so and if it got up to 103 t0 call the on call doctor. He has never had a fever that high. Anyway about an hour after the Tylenol it went down to 99.9, so hopefully he is okay. I am going to sleep in his room tonight, just in case.

Friends
Tonight when we got home and I was putting Max to bed, he smelled like the various people who had held him throughout the evening: Tammy, Rachel, Marshall, Kevin, Travis, Dawnia, Sheila, his daddy. An overwhelming sense of love washed over me. (For those who did not hold him too: Charles and Matt)! Nothing like it guys. Love you all. Can't wait until next time!

Steam Cleaner
Did I tell you I got my steam cleaner? I made Tim use it last weekend. Our carpet was really gross. I hate to think about it. Now I wish we had hardwood. Never happy.
Book quiz

You're Watership Down!
by Richard Adams
Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd
be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.
Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.
Well, at least I can laugh at myself. Ha! See?

Sorry
I am so sorry. I get scared and panicky. I worry about you so much. What you do is so important to our lives that when I think that you (or some outside force) is jeopardizing that I freak out. I said things I did not mean. I did not say things I should have. I love you. I miss you. Forgive me.

Shoulders getting broader by the minute
What is it about me that people tell me their deepest, darkest secrets? I am not complaining. Everybody needs to tell their secrets to someone, I just wonder why they pick me.
