Ho hum...back to work

So work started back up on Wednesday and students came on Thursday. I have mostly good students, with 3 notable exceptions. Two are just kinda smart asses. For example, I asked a female student who she had her English class with last semester. Smart ass number one chimes up and says Mr. So and So. To which I responded with a smirky "I didn;t ask you, I asked so and so." I asked the girl the question again to which she responded Mr. So and So. Smart ass number one says, "I told you."
Smart ass number two spoke to another student who was passing by his desk at a time I had told them to be silent. I shushed him. He responded, "I am not talking." To which I said, "You just were." His response was, "I was talking a minute ago, but now I am not." I just had to say,"Talking a moment ago was merely annoying, but now you are just being a pain in my neck. No more!"

Okay so smart ass number three chimes in at this time with,"What is your problem?" By this time I was SO VERY ANGRY ( normally I am very slow to anger, but with hormones raging.....) that I could not see straight. In my calmest, most authoritative voice I said, "I have many problems and at the present time you are at the top of the list.....GET OUT!"

So these guys are all in the same class. My prediction is that they will be spending quite a bit of time in somebody's office.

I do wonder sometimes why I chose this profession.

Completely unrelated note: I have a fasting glucose tolerance test on Monday morning. I cannot eat or drink (only very small amout of water) past midnight and my test is not until 8:45. I have to drink this nasty lemon lime stuff and then an hour later they check my blood. Have I mentioned that I routinely have to get up in the middle of the night to eat something? I so think that I will be miserably sick. I really hope not. If the first blood (hee hee) comes back at a certain level, they continue the test for another hour...with me still not eating anything. So potentially Monday I may go as long as 12 hours without food or drink (except the nasty lemon lime crap).

I swear I do not understand how people have more than one child. I really do not want to go throught all this again.

Why are you having to take a glucose tolerance test? Does your doc think you are diabetic?

When I had mine, it lasted about 5 hours...I hope you don't have to sit there that long. My favorite thing they said to me was "if you feel like you are going to pass out, tell one of us first"...as if my passing out wouldn't have been a big enough sign to them. :) My least favorite part was that they ran out of veins in my arms for blood samples and wound up using veins in my hands.....that hurt.....but, I don't mean to scare you. It's not that bad actually....just make sure to take something to read or play with....

Love ya!!! I'll think many good thoughts for you!!!

It is standard during pregnancy to have one at 24-28 weeks to test for "gestational diabetes". Fun, fun. I had the five hour one when I was a kid and I remember just crying and crying.

(((Jen)))

I'll be thinking about you!!!

I remember those tests--nasty. One was supersweet cola, which was bad enough, and the other was orange. YUCK!! Lemon lime sounds better than both of those. Good luck with the test. :)

I had the lemon lime and I had the orange when I was pregnant with Carly. I failed my one hour and had to go back at a later date for the 4 hour. At least I passed it. Good luck, I am sending warm thoughts your way right now. Because you are there right now.

I ***failed**** the one hour....wah!!! I have to go back on Wednesday for the three hour. They gave me tropical punch flavor.....not too bad, but it really coated my throat and mouth. I guess I'll take a book for Wednesday.

Many hugs, Jen!!! I'm sorry about the test....

I homeschool because of teachers like you.

If you homeschool because of teachers like Jen, then I feel sorry for your children. Heaven forbid, they be able to learn and develop open minds. Then again, I'm not a close-minded coward afraid to post under a legitimate username. If you are afraid of teachers like J, then you'd definitely run screaming from someone like me.

Sheesh! And everyone wonders why I say I hate people so often.

And, yes, I know the adult thing to do would be to ignore comments such as the one above, but I'm feeling rather cranky at the moment. I think I'm having sympathy symptoms for Jen. heheh If I start craving cupcakes, I'm outta here! :P

Love you, Jen!

First of all Tams:

Love you so much!!! Thanks for sticking up for me. Miss you!

Now anonymous:

I actually understand your desire to homeschool. It can create a very tight family bond, plus you can control all of the information your children are exposed to.

Now, just as there are bad teachers in public schools, there are bad homeschool parent (teachers) who have no business trying to educate children, not to say that you are one of those.

Had you read some of my earlier postings, you would have found that I am indeed a very caring teacher who goes well above and beyond the call of duty. I love children and I love education. There are times when I lose my temper. These times are few and far between, seriously.

I will present several reason for the incident of last week:

I am pregnant and it does not take much to make me cranky these days.

The students that I was dealing with not only have problems with authority, but with women in positions of authority. Knowing this, I had to react swiftly, although I could have reacted much more justly.

As a veteran teacher, I have found that you must make a strong start in the first few days of the semester and show them your boundries early.

As you face only your own children, maybe one, two, three, four, etc (God bless you), I face up to thirty or more. I am sure you have raised your children well, but many, many, many other parents have not.

Now I would never have reacted in this manner to a young child, but I teach high school and these kids were 16 or 17. When children of this age 'push' you, often the only thing they understand is you 'pushing' back.

I could go on and on, but right now the baby wants another cupcake and O'Tim will be home soon wanting dinner, god love him. Anonymous, please feel free to respond and we can have a civilized debate on the subject if you wish to do so.

So I am curious. HOw would you handle the situation? Remember you are facing 30 kids and must keep control in order for learning to occur.

I think he/she/it is long gone.

God love me for wanting dinner? Well I did work late, but awgosh honey, all ya gotta say is "pick up something on the way home."

Love you!

I'll remember that. Love you too!

So what I found out is they do not continue the test, but reschedule you for another test. 3 hours worth
