We finally broke under pressure last season and began to watch American Idol. We watched it all the way through and for the most part enjoyed it. We like the auditions better than the later stages and this year we may watch just the auditions.
So I must share from last night's tryouts with you.
Most of the people in Seattle absolutely SUCKED, but I must say there were many, many entertaining characters. I have to wonder if these people are just there to cash in on their 15 minutes, or if they seriously think they can sing. They also must have commissioned the short bus last night, as there were several people with at the very least had some sort of social disorder. Several of the boys would not look anyone in the eye (a very good sign that points towards mental deficiency...i.e. Aspbergers, Autism, and Social Affective Disorder), many others were seemingly misshapen in some manner or the other, and even others may have been ragers. Some seemed drunk and slurred speech very badly. There was one unfortunate girl (along with her mother who looked JUST like her) that was not wearing a bra. Now, let me tell you that is the first thing that comes off when I get home, but I am realistic enough (and have large enough breasts) to know that you just don't go out in public boobs akimbo. That girl was swinging and swaying to beat the band. I was mesmorized. She made a comment to the judges that she had brought her mother for suppost and all I could think of is that she should have worn a bra for support. Then there was the meercat guy. I swear to god he looked like a meercat. He also had a very strange voice that sounded a bit like I would imagine a meercat would sound like...high and squeaky and he sang just the same way. I laughed until I almost peed my pants. I did get sad a time or two, as the judges were somewhat relentless in their critcizism. Last season there was this little guy that tried out in Atlanta and he was obviously mentally challenged in some way or another. He sang and danced to some Michael Jackson song. Fortunately the judges recognized the obvious challenge and did not berate or belittle him, but last night they seemed to be crossing a line a time or two.
Needless to say I can't wait to see the next trainwreck.
