What did I used to do?

So Max has been fussy today and did not nap much, therefore it is only 7:00pm and I find myself with nothing to do (not really, I could fold laundry).

I don't know what to do. My son is asleep, Tim is covering something or another, and I have already made all of my evening phone calls.

Ah, I can ask a question.

What is your favorite money saving tip? We are trying to not spend so much money so that maybe one of us can stay home with Max.

Here are a few I am considering:

canceling cable
downgrading to DSL
turning down the water heater (gasp!!! I loves me a hot shower)
cutting back on the minutes on the cell phone service
putting a timer in the bathroom to take shorter showers
using coupons (grrrr)
using more store brands
no eating out (except on occasion)
consolidating errands
changing our insurance
getting more people in the carpool

I would like to cancel the home phone, but as Tim pointed out, our cells are not reliable at the house and we have to have 911 service.

Maybe instead of canceling cable, you could take it down to the bare minimum.

Also I've had DSL and cable and to be honest, I've never noticed much difference between the two; and, what's a few difference in seconds anyway? Plus, here anyway, DSL is more reliable. I'm switching back pretty soon.

I wish I could offer some tips, but we're the paycheck-to-paycheck, living-beyond-our-means type folks. ;)

Love ya!

I haven't had cable in 10 years...you learn not to miss it all that much after a while (though I do tend to sit in front of my parents' tv a couple of hours a week)....PBS. All you really need is PBS. ;) PBS and dvds, that is....I can load ya'll up with dvds.

I live cheap as can be.....I'll think on it and get back to you.

Hugs and smooches to the family!!!

When i quit work to stay at home with Carly we canceled the satellite, turned off my cell, used coupons and store brands. I also made sure to cook meals that we could eat several times in one form or fashion.Also remember that not paying the sitter will save quiet a bit.
Hey you could always do cloth diapers! :)

as far as not having a phone in the house, pertaining to 911 service... I was told when I got rid of my land line that you could still hook a phone up to the jack and call 911 and it would work. Don't know how true it is, as we've not had to use it and we can call 911 on our cells anyway, but a phone company (alltel) employee told us that.
